About arcade.ly

arcade.ly is an online games site where all games are built using standard web technologies: HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript, and no Flash whatsoever.

What’s so good about that, you might ask?

Well, the main thing is it means our games work on all devices: they work on mobile and tablet, as well as desktop and laptop. Of course there are some limitations: you tend to need to be running a reasonably recent device. So far all our games will run on an iPhone 5S and current mid-range (or better) Android smartphones like those built by OnePlus. In fact our current Android test rig is a OnePlus Two.

I (Bart) started building this site because I wanted a fun way to illustrate the client side of building high performance websites, and I really love old arcade games like Pac-Man, Asteroids, Space Invadiers, Defender, Star Castle, Centipede and the like, so it seemed like a good way to do that.

I’m a web and database performance consultant, specialising in .NET and SQL Server, so I’m normally very service, mid-tier, and back-end focussed. I needed a way to talk to people about client issues as well, which are becoming increasingly important. If you want to find out more you can find me here.

If you need to get in touch, use one of the methods on the Contact page and drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.
